What it means

A step's .inputs are files or directories of the project, written as paths relative to the project directory (src/main.go: no leading /, no . or .. part). Each is resolved with every symbolic link followed, and must be there, be a file or a directory, and stay inside the project. A link that leads out is refused naming where it leads, as a --mount outside the project is: a build sees only what the project holds.

Inputs are checked before anything runs.
